Summary
Argus does not collect, store, or transmit any user data. The extension operates entirely within your browser. There are no analytics, no tracking, no external API calls, and no user accounts.
What Data We Collect
None. Argus does not collect any personal information, browsing history, website content, or usage data of any kind.
How Argus Works
When you open the Argus side panel on a webpage, the extension reads metadata (such as title tags, meta descriptions, Open Graph tags, structured data, headings, links, and images) directly from the page's DOM within your browser. This data is used solely to display extraction results, generate audit scores, and provide AI insights within the side panel. None of this data is sent to any server, API, or third party.
AI Features
The AI Insights tab uses Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano model via the Prompt API. All AI processing happens on your device. No page content or metadata is sent to any external AI service. The AI model runs locally within Chrome and does not require an internet connection to function.
Local Storage
Argus uses Chrome's local storage API for a single purpose: remembering whether you have dismissed the optional promotional banner in the Audit tab. This preference is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted anywhere. No other data is stored.
Permissions
Argus requests the following Chrome permissions:
Side Panel – to display the extension's interface
Active Tab – to identify the current tab and communicate with the content script
Scripting – to inject the content script that reads page metadata from the DOM
Storage – to save the single banner dismissal preference
Host permissions (all URLs) – to allow the extension to inspect any webpage you choose to analyze
These permissions are used exclusively for the extension's core functionality. No permission is used to monitor browsing activity, collect data, or communicate with external services.
Third-Party Services
Argus does not use any third-party services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or external APIs. The extension makes zero network requests.
Children's Privacy
Argus does not collect any data from any user, including children under the age of 13.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Since Argus collects no data, we do not anticipate material changes to this policy.
